El Capitan in Tulum

Fantastic. We stayed in the hotel attached and eat here four times. Staff are really friendly, food is great and the portions are huge. We found we could order one meal between the two of us.

I have no clue for all this 5 star reviews. I cannot believe this place got more than 4 stars. Food was terrible, service was terrible, washrooms are terrible. Yes its cheap but still not worth it.

I love the feeling of this place. Trendy. The food is also very delicious. My shrimp fajita was bomb!!!

Based on the dish I got here, I give it 3 stars. I got the shrimp tacos. I wasn’t really impressed as it lacked flavor. But the portions are huge and the price is on point for Tulum. I’ll come back and try the fish to get a better idea of their quality.

If your looking for a good place to try local seafood that is fresh, well prepared and at a good affordable price.. "El Capitan" is the place for you. The dishes are abundant and taste excellent. Good ambience and friendly staff. In my opinion it's a must visit restaurant of you are visiting Tulum and looking for a place to eat.

Get the Pirate tacos - grilled shrimp with spinach and red onions. So much food for the money and delicious. The quesadilla was huge and stuffed with cheese. Staff and service was friendly, and their hot sauces were good too. We'll be back!

HIGHLY RECOMMEND! BEST SEAFOOD! VERY REASONABLE! We asked our hotel on the first night in Tulum what they would recommend for Seafood...they immediately said El Capitan. We ordered their Pirate Tacos which were shrimp tacos with a spinach aioli and it was the BEST shrimp tacos I've had in my life! I also ordered the catch of the day which was Rubia (also known as Yellowtail Snapper) which was grilled to perfection, buttery and delicious! We loved our dinner so much we decided to return 2 nights later and I got to have the Mixed Ceviche with Bass, Shrimp and Octopus, OH MY GOSH was it delicious and fresh! My mom enjoyed the shrimp fajitas which were just as delicious! Definitely go here if you are looking for fresh delicious seafood for reasonable prices. They have 2 locations in Tulum but we went to the one off of Av. Coba both times

Delicious and fresh seafood restaurant. I recommend the ceviche mixto (medium size is big) and tacos piratas (speciality of the house with fresh shrimps).Cocktails were good also such as el jaguar composed with fresh passion fruit and mezcal.

Staff and people there is nice, but we had a terrible experience with the food it tasted terrible :(

The portions are a touch on the large side. But the food is great and the service very friendly.

Great service and lovely homemade food! the lobster was amazing, and only 1.5 pesos per gram. Just remember you can only pay cash, but there's a machine at the Chedraui opposite. The service was lovely too, it also seems there's a great atmosphere between the waiters and the kitchen staff.

I had some fried fish with rice and salad here. I had almost the same meal back in Bogota. My expectations where high but sadly it wasn't as good as what I had before. The fish was dry and didn't had much of a flavor. I can't complain about all the side dishes they usually serve here in Mexico. I got Nacho's with different sauces and they even came with tacos beside. I would rather skip all the stuff around it if they would have focused more on the dish I ordered.

Best restaurant in Tulum!!! Best fish tacos we found in town (battered), best fried squid (ever) and great ceviche!

The portions are huge!!! Especially the ceviche! Ordered a medium and had to get a to go container for it and our two entrees (to go containers have a small surcharge like they should). Very relaxed dive bar atmosphere. Would recommend for those super hungry.

Good food & service, generous servings - all at a great price!

Good food and good value. Only negative is in July it can be hot, no AC outdoors, and flies and mosquitoes can be bothersome. Some people applied bug spray. But the Ceviche was great. Service is what you'd expect from a place like this.

Probably my favorite restaurant in Tulum! Came here at least once every day while on vacation a little over a week. The staff is friendly and welcoming and the food is AMAZING at affordable prices. A local favorite so you know it’s good. A MUST visit while here in Tulum! ❤️

The portion size for the Mexican breakfast was huge and the prices great. Coffee refills included. Great friendly service. We left happily and will definitely come back!

New Information- my return visit was the exact opposite. Fresh lobster was in season, but when I found out the cost I couldn't afford it and ordered something different. Apparently that made them mad so they put a nice large piece of glass in my good- which I ended up biting into. **I DO NOT RECOMMEND El Capitan!!**1st time there they had Excellent food and service. Definitely worth a return visit.

Absolutely MUST eat place when you’re in Tulum. The food is fresh, delicious and comes with a great price. We had the chevice, pirate tacos and the quesadilla. Drinks are great too! Great price value ratio overall. The service is super friendly, attentive and accommodating.

The food here is as authentic as mexican food can get , the portions are huge , the prices are perfect for daily eating out if your visiting Tulum, and the staff is extremely kind and the open restaurant atmosphere was great , I went 4 different times In a well it was that good, we enjoyed the tacos, quesadilias , cheaper salads , flank steak, fish fingers , and the chicken wrap , it was all delicious and filled me to the max , so much more to try , I'll be coming here anytime I come to Tulum, I recommend it to anyone wanting to experience real mexican food

Food is nice but not something special, service and prices ok.

We had a big whole fish grilled and it was superbly done, not overcooked, which is generally the way it's done, people here want their food cooked utterly. For seafood, at least to my taste, this is deadly. I have a more Asian style palate so this was a very pleasant surprise, not overcooked, no burned garlic. The one drawback was that our server was inattentive and anticipated nothing so we had to keep bugging him for service.

Food is delicious and service is great. The ambiance is for all family members. I would totally come back.

The best restaurant I went to in Tulum! The portions are big and the prices are good. I had shrimp tacos and guacamole which were both delicious. The waiter was really friendly and helpful.

This place was very good for us. We just arrived in Tulum and wanted to have something to eat. Prices are normal for Tulum and the food was good. Nothing very special but perfect for our needs just after arriving :)

Food was not fresh. Lobster tasted at least a week old, and octopus was so rubbery, it tasted like a leather shoe... Do not recommend
